PDF Text Editor Development

We are a small software company building a browser-based document application (Vite + TypeScript, [login to view URL], pdf-lib, fontkit). All processing runs on the user’s device. We need a senior developer to build an in-place text editing engine for existing PDF text in English and Arabic, including mixed lines.

The deliverable is proven by one demo. Open a PDF containing an existing Arabic sentence, change one word in place and save. The saved file must show correctly joined (shaped) Arabic letters in right-to-left order and keep the original font. The same must work for an English line in a bold heading. Apply only if you have built in-browser PDF content editing before and can link to it in your proposal. Proposals without a link to prior PDF-editing work will not be considered.

Scope for phase 1

Locate the text run under a click using [login to view URL] operator lists and text content.

Replace a word or line in place in the PDF content stream, keeping the original position and spacing. Character spacing, word spacing and horizontal scaling operators must be honoured and glyph widths recomputed. Re-encode in the existing font when the embedded font has the glyphs, otherwise substitute a bundled font (Noto Naskh Arabic or DejaVu) and embed a subset. No paragraph reflow in phase 1.
